Christmas 2023

christmas tree festival

Christmas 2023

Our run up to Christmas this year has been very busy!  We started off on the 2nd December with “A Concert of Festive Music” by Backworth Colliery Band who were joined by Killingworth Community Choir.  Church was full with standing room only, despite the snow on the ground.  One of the many highlights was Backworth’s training band where newer musicians were given their first taste of performing.

The following day we held an Advent Carol and Toy service where we collected toys for a Local Charity ( Support and Grow North East https://www.supportandgrownortheast.com/  ) and special food treats for The Bay Foodbank (https://www.thebayfoodbank.org.uk/ )

Our next special service was hosting the annual District Scouts Carol service which was led this year by the Northumberland County Scout Band, another full house with joyful singing and a timely reminder of the true meaning of Christmas.

All through December we were joined by some of our local schools for their nativity and carol services, which included this year welcoming all the students from Percy Hedley’s Killingworth site for three Christingle services.

Our Christmas Tree Festival also returned for the second year, this is a chance for local schools and community groups to decorate a tree to be displayed in church, celebrating being part of our lovely community.  Special Thanks go to all our contributors.
