On a hot Saturday afternoon in July we hosted a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing film.

The film was created following an Emergency Briefing in Westminster which 600 MPs were invited to attend, 80 of which did. At the briefing experts in the weather, food, the economy, nature, healthcare and national security shared the latest information about the impact of the climate and nature crisis, and the risks to our society.

The film shared snapshots of the expert talks to update everyone around the country about the impact of the climate and nature crisis on our communities now and in the near future.

As an outcome of watching the film we talked about some of the actions we could personally take, such as eating less meat, making space for wildlife in our gardens, looking into community energy schemes and places to buy local organic produce. We also thought about opportunities in our community, such as working with the eco club at our local high school, asking Morrisons to have special offers on organic produce and inviting other community venues to screen the film. Lastly and most importantly we agreed that our MP should hear from us as a collective group and so we wrote to her after the screening inviting her to support the call for a televised briefing to ensure the UK is fully briefed on the climate and nature crisis.

At St John’s we have silver eco church status from A Rocha. We will continue to pray and advocate for action from our government to address the climate and nature crisis and we will work on our own impact, seeking to embed sustainability in all that we do.
