June Round Up
What a busy month!
We started with our annual grounds clear up getting ready for a range of events for our local community. Thanks to the team of volunteers and the bacon butties it was a very productive morning.
June 6th was our annual Summer Fair, having missed this event last year due to Phase 1 of The Way Project, it was lovely to see many familiar and new faces enjoying the day. With entertainment from Killingworth Community Choir, refreshments, games and stalls it was a great success despite the inclement weather!
On Saturday 13th June we gathered to celebrate our Church grounds, share fellowship and survey the abundant wildlife in our beautiful church grounds.
We used apps (i-naturalist and Merlin) and books to identify different species and bird song. To date, with some identification still to be done we have identified over 100 different species from Chiff-chaffs to Oak trees, vetch to shield bugs, plus we are sure we saw a squirrel (grey not red sadly).
We are committed to do what we can to care for our creation, by the choices we make for energy, encouraging recycling, and campaigning for a better fairer world for all.
We also held our first Open Mic night, aimed at young people from North Tyneside. Performance and social spaces for young people are seriously limited and so when we were approached by a Sixth Former from our Local High School (George Stephenson) who was wanting to arrange an Open Mic Night we jumped at the chance to work with them.
We were entertained by very talented singers and a magician, and supported by the Performing Arts Department who kindly lent us their PA system and turned the church into a cabaret venue.
We hope to make this a regular occurrence, so if you have a talented young person, looking to make their stage debut, or a seasoned performer looking to reach a new audience please do get in touch.
As we continue to look at raising funds for Phase 2 of The Way Forward Project, our Junior Church are leading the way with a month of sponsored activities including a litter pick, sponsored skip and a cake sale at Sunday coffee. Well done to our young people and leaders!
