It was a joy to welcome Civic Guests, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, Benton District Scouts, Police, Air and Sea Cadets to St John’s on Sunday 21st April 2024 for a service and parade to the White Swan Centre in Killingworth.

One of our Readers, Hilary helped us to think about the qualities of loyalty and service embodied by St George, by a egg dunching tournament (think conkers but with hard boiled eggs)! We remembered that George was a stranger and helped people he didn’t know and didn’t keep the reward for himself but used it to bless others less fortunate than himself.

After the service, the parade formed up by George Stephenson High School and we walked up to the White Swan Centre where all the youth organisations formed up and were inspected by the Deputy Lord Lieutenant, which some of the groups were more used to than others. We then went into the hall for refreshments.
